A letter from the “red” states

For the past 33 years I’ve lived on both US coasts. It goes without saying that there is a certain way of life and thinking in NYC and LA. Now that I had a chance to spend some “quality time” in Texas and N. Louisiana, I’d like to share a few thoughts about my visit to the “red” states. First and foremost, I was really impressed with the local people – they are very polite, considerate and attentive. Then there is a distinct feeling of a tightly knit community where “everyone knows your name”. The small town of Shreveport, LA is brimming with film screenings, art exhibitions, wine tastings, etc. The homes are stately and beautiful, and their residents are well read and traveled. The food is excellent and the wine lists are long and sophisticated. Yes, they have their share of problems and we may not always agree on everything, but I had truly enjoyed my stay in the “heartland”.

Keep on traveling,
