The square is defined by arcades on three sides and St. Mark&#8217;s church on the eastern end. During the day, St. Mark&#8217;s Square is filled with people, pigeons and music. You can spend the whole day in this area, visiting the interior of St. Mark\u2019s Church, the Doge\u2019s Palace and Museo Correr. Or go to the top of the Bell Tower, which features spectacular views of Venice.<\/p>\n<h4>The Rialto Bridge<\/h4>\n<p>The Rialto Bridge is a landmark structure on the Grand Canal in Venice, attracting visitors with its central location and scenic views of the Grand Canal. The bridge is lined with two rows of shops selling souvenirs, glass products and jewelry. There are numerous cafes and restaurants in the area where you can rest your feet and watch boats make their way down the Grand Canal.<\/p>\n<h4>The Doge\u2019s Palace<\/h4>\n<p>Located on the eastern end of St. Mark\u2019s Square, the Doge&#8217;s Palace is a beautiful Gothic building that used to be the home of the Venetian doges. Today, the building it open to visitors on most days. Inside the palace, visitors can view the Great Council Hall, the Chamber of the Council of Ten, the torture chamber, prison cells and other rooms. The famous Bridge of Sighs connects the Doge&#8217;s Palace with the state prisons.<\/p>\n<h4>The Grand Canal<\/h4>\n<p>The best way to see the Grand Canal in Venice is by boat. While you can hire a water taxi, the slower and cheaper vaporetto (water bus) Number 1 is a good choice. The Grand Canal is over 2 miles long and features three bridges.<\/p>\n<h4>The Bridge of Sighs<\/h4>\n<p>The Bridge of Sighs is a small stone bridge that connects the Doge&#8217;s Palace with prison cells. The bridge received its name because of the sighs of the prisoners that were lead to the terrible prison cells. To see the bridge, follow the length of the Doge\u2019s Palace until you reach Ponte della Paglia, the bridge facing the Bridge of Sighs.
