A letter from the lakes

The Summer Palace is available for private parties.

The turboprop flight from Delhi to Udaipur takes about 1 hour, but it transports you from the sub-continent’s crazy capital into the land of princely warriors and artificial lakes surrounding their castles and palaces. Many of the princes are still alive and well, although they no longer protect the trade routes and tax their subjugated population.

The Maharana of Udaipur belongs to the second longest-living royal line in the world – his predecessors have been ruling this rich province for 67 generations! The Maharana’s used to be fierce warriors, the only ones able to retain their independence from the foreign invaders and other maharaja’s. Now they have gone into the hospitality business, converting some of their fairytale properties into luxury hotels, restaurants, etc. In fact, there is a collection of Heritage hotels, which are situated in the former homes of the local nobility.

We were privileged to spend a night in a 17th century palace and dine on its roof terrace overlooking the illuminated lake. This was the experience which we will treasure for the rest of our lives.

By the way, do you want to have a destination wedding on an island in the Maharana’s summer palace? Give me a call and I will make all of the arrangements for you!

Keep on traveling,
