I’m ashamed to admit it, but we have “discovered” the amazing Mexico City for ourselves just a few years ago. There are plenty of excuses for our ignorance, but who cares? We have finally arrived to the beautiful, vibrant, delicious, historical, and yet modern CDMX!
We’ve visited CDMX twice already during the last couple of years and anticipate more adventures here in the near future! This brief “guide” is for the newcomers, who want to experience the highlights. One can easily spend more time to visit many other attractions in CDMX and beyond. Let’s just start here and let’s go to CDMX!

Day 1 – Zocalo (the downtown area)
- The Cathedral and a large main square in front of it.
- Templo Mayor de México – The Main Temple in the capital of the mighty Aztec empire, was the place where the most important ritual and ceremonial activities in Aztec life took place.
- Pedestrian shopping streets
- Sanborns Madero Department Store (lunch / visit)
- Palacio de Bellas Artes (performance hall / museum featuring murals by Diego Rivera & other artists)
- Diego Rivera Mural Museum
Day 2 – Day trip to Teotihuacan
- Teotihuacan Pyramids – The Pyramid of the Sun is the second largest in Mesoamerica and the 3rd largest pyramid in the world. Note: the archeological area is very large, there is lots of walking, but the tour guide can drive tourists from one entrance to another to save some time.
- Santa Maria de Guadalupe – revered Catholic church & pilgrimage site housing a cloak with the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe.
Day 3 – Polanco
- Bosque de Chapultepec – beautiful “Central Park” of CDMX.
- Chapultepec Castle – a historic hilltop castle with views of CDMX and the National Museum of History.
- Anthropology Museum
- High-end shopping / restaurants @ Lincoln Park
- Museo Soumaya – great architecture and art museum
Day 4 – Day trip to Puebla
- A very nice way to spend a day in a beautiful city situated within 2 hour drive from CDMX. Enjoy Puebla’s culinary fame, colonial architecture and pottery.
Day 5 – Coyoacan
- Museo de Frida Kahlo – reserve your entrance tickets on-line.
- Leon Trotsky house / museum
- Walk around the bohemian area.
- Xochimilco lake / boat rides.

Comments
- Beware of the high altitude and take it easy for a couple of days after you’ve arrived.
- Uber is very efficient and inexpensive
- Use Credit Cards everywhere, there is really no reason to convert your cash.
- Restaurant tipping – tell a waiter to add 10% of the bill BEFORE they charge your CC.
